HANDLING AND PREPARATION

STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY

Once the strawberries have been pre-selected and pre-packaged during the harvesting, they are brought to the Fresón de Palos’ nearby central facilities: more than 30,000m² of modern industrial units and buildings, which produce over 70,000 tonnes of fruit per year. Here, the strawberries undergo the strictest quality controls to ensure that they arrive with consumers in peak condition in terms of their organoleptic properties, conservation and presentation.

Thanks to its strong commitment to innovation, quality and food safety, Fresón de Palos boasts the most up-to-date technology in the industry. The cooperative has an advanced traceability system based on radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, a system capable of independently and automatically controlling each part of the production process, from the arrival and preparation of the fruit to its storage, conservation, distribution and sale.

The central industrial unit has twenty production lines working in parallel, each made up of machines for unpacking, controlling weight, and packing and sealing boxes. This makes it possible to completely mechanise the preparation of the strawberries and improve production output and efficiency across all processes, while simultaneously reducing costs.

REFRIGERATED CONSERVATION

The strawberry is a fruit that is extremely sensitive to temperature, and it needs to be kept cold in order to preserve its appearance and nutritional properties. From the moment that the fruit arrives in the Fresón de Palos facilities, it undergoes a controlled cooling process that begins in rapid pre-cooling tunnels. Once the punnets, boxes and pallets have been labelled and coded for identification and logistic control purposes, they are refrigerated again, until reaching the optimum temperature to be transported to their destination.

DISTRIBUTION

THE MOST INTERNATIONAL STRAWBERRY

Once the production process is finished, when the product is in peak condition and has reached the appropriate transportation temperature, it is carried to different destinations in Spain and Europe. The agility of Fresón de Palos’ production process makes it possible to go from harvesting the fruit in the field, to delivering to the customer, in just 24 hours.

Fresón de Palos has its own logistical and distribution means, directly supplying large and medium-sized stores, wholesalers and retailers, nationally and internationally.

Season after season, millions of people fall in love with the freshness and exquisite taste of strawberries that cross our borders and arrive France, Italy, Germany, the UK, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Romania, Finland, Panama and other destinations in the Middle East and Asia.
